Where Next Nurseries are selling a rare variety of small apple tree, the Doddin. Until recently as few as 20 of these little trees were left in and around Redditch, the only place where they are known to have grown. Only slightly bigger than a golf ball apples are harvested in July and eaten whole. They are so juicy and sweet we hear some local residents remember during World War II they were bought for a penny a bag as a substitute for sweets. Now propagated and made available through The Doddin Preservation Society Where Next have some trees available for only £19.95 (inc VAT) each. Visit Where Next Nurseries in Easemore Road or ring to reserve yours on 01527 69955.
